The year 2001 marked the beginning of a major trend in international business. China's incredible and impressive economic growth and increasingly open markets are introducing vast new opportunities to many, as well as potential threats to some. Those equipped with the necessary knowledge, experience, and relationships worldwide were able to benefit from this tremendous economic trend. At the Wharton School, the world's first and leading undergraduate business school, students cannot afford to lag behind and must continue to improve their understanding of Chinese markets in order to continue to succeed. The Wharton China Business Society was founded with that mission in mind, to help students in the United States better understand the business landscape, economic environment, and culture that serve as driving forces in China's business world. The organization became the first student-run organization with a focus on China and the extended Greater China region. The leaders of this organization through years have built the Wharton China Business Society into a professional student-run organization which today consists of five major programs and numerous other activities.
