The Society
The Wharton China Business Society (WCBS) is a professional student-run organization at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. The organization is comprised of 4 major programs and 100 undergraduate officers, focusing on providing activities and programs that improve our understanding of China's business landscape and markets. Our programs our designed to connect and bridge students in the United States to the Greater China region, whether it be for knowledge, career, networking, or friendship.
Our History
The year 2001 marked the beginning of a major trend in international business. China's incredible and impressive economic growth and increasingly open markets are introducing vast new opportunities to many, as well as potential threats to some. Those equipped with the necessary knowledge, experience, and relationships worldwide were able to benefit from this tremendous economic trend. At the Wharton School, the world's first and leading undergraduate business school, students cannot afford to lag behind and must continue to improve their understanding of Chinese markets in order to continue to succeed.
The Wharton China Business Society was founded with that mission in mind, to help students in the United States better understand the business landscape, economic environment, and culture that serve as driving forces in China's business world. The organization became the first student-run organization with a focus on China and the extended Greater China region. Through a continued commitment to innovation, excellence, hard work, and dedication, the organization was able to achieve a number of firsts in the entire nation. They include:
- First business conference focused on China organized by undergraduates
- First internship and career program for Greater China
- First summer program with a focus on Chinese business and commercial Chinese
The quality of our programs and activities have continued to be praised worldwide by our participants and supporters. This has helped us build a strong reputation for high quality, professionalism, and excellence and sustained leadership in our markets.
The leaders of this organization through years have built the Wharton China Business Society into a professional student-run organization which today consists of five major programs and numerous other activities. Even though we have grown tremendously over the past years, we will continue to maintain our focus on our mission and to deliver high quality and professional programs in the future.
